Shellplate Bolt (13418) – Grease the underside where it the contacts the Shellplate. Add a light layer of grease to the angled camming surfaces.
Ring Indexer (13677) – Use the Dillon syringe to squirt grease up underneath the ring to lube between the ring and shaft without having to disassemble the component. Mainshaft Pivot Pin (13830) – Remove the Mainshaft Set Screw (13789) and use the Dillon syringe (or grease gun needle fitting) to squirt grease up into the groove in the Pin. Link Arm Pins (13700) – Use a grease gun for the Zerk fittings on the newer model XL 650s. Apply the grease LIGHTLY unless otherwise indicated.
#AIRATTACK 650 MAINTENANCE MANUAL#
The Manual specifically forbids the use of any “penetrating lubricants, aerosol sprays, or solvent type lubes, such as WD-40 or Break Free”.īelow is a list from Dillon Technical Support.
New XL 650s are factory lubed with red grease on all sliding and bearing surfaces. The Dillon XL 650 Manual states that with the exception of the ram shaft the only lubricant to be used anywhere on the reloader is wheel bearing grease. After lightly polishing, clean thoroughly with alcohol. The goal is to NOT remove any measurable amount of metal, but to remove all traces of powder residue and provide smooth contact surfaces for the Powder Bar. Polish the tracks of the Powder Measure body which contact the Powder Bar with alcohol (or acetone or mineral spirits if evidence of powder nitrite build-up exists) and #0000 steel wool or green Scotch Brite. Perform the final polishing with a Dremel, using felt tips and jeweler’s rouge. Continue with progressively finer grits of sandpaper, or use a Dremel with a small Scrotchbrite wheel. Break the edge where the hole is in the bottom. Polish the inside cone of the Powder Measure with 600 grit sandpaper to take off the high spots. Polish with red jeweler’s rouge and then clean thoroughly with alcohol or acetone. Use a gun cleaning mop of the appropriate caliber, chucked into a hand drill or drill press. Polish the inside of the Funnels to reduce powder flow friction, particularly with extruded powders. You should be able to easily insert a case onto the funnel by hand. All brass should be a smooth slip fit with no drag. Test the fit with both resized brass and with new brass (which usually sticks the hardest). Proceed slowly and measure progress often with a micrometer (preferred) or calipers. Use wet sanding with progressively finer grits, starting with 600, then 1000 and finally 1200 paper. 001” from the small diameter of the end radius of the Funnel and from the beginning of the angled shoulder which bells (flares) the case mouth. VERY SLIGHTLY decrease the radius on all Powder Funnels to smooth out press operations by reducing brass sticking in the Funnels. Do NOT polish these Teflon-coated Powder Bars. Note: Dillon Powder Bars are manufactured with a silver Teflon coating.
Orange oil-based Gunk hand cleaner works to lighten gunpowder stains on the interior of the plastic powder hopper tube after extended powder storage in tube. Use a gun cleaning rod and mop (or patches) of the appropriate caliber to clean interior of the powder drop tube, powder funnel and collar sleeve. Use alcohol (or acetone or mineral spirits if evidence of powder nitrite build-up exists) to clean powder measure parts, including the powder funnel, powder bars and the interior of the powder measure body where bars slide. Shop air or canned compressed air may be used to great effect to remove gunpowder granules and loose primer residue from XL 650 components. Remove dirt or debris lodged in the pockets of the shellplate with a dental pick or similar tool. Never use alcohol or petroleum-based solvents on any plastic casefeed components. Use Formula 409 or similar detergent cleaner to clean interior of the casefeed bowl.
#AIRATTACK 650 MAINTENANCE PATCH#
Use pipe cleaners, or a gun cleaning patch on a rod with a jag or slotted tip, wetted with alcohol to swap out the interior of primer magazine and pickup tubes. Use ONLY alcohol to clean Primer Pickup Tubes and Primer Magazines with plastic tips. Only use alcohol (or acetone or mineral spirits for very heavy build-ups), which leaves no residue, to remove primer dust build-up and other debris on the Rotary Primer Disc and Primer Punch Assembly parts. Never use ANY kind of solvent or cleaner on greased parts! (Dillon Technical Support) Wipe the main shaft and all greased parts clean with a rag. Dillon recommends cleaning the XL 650 every 3,000 rounds.
